Vietnam Trade mission towards sustainable food systems
From 19 to 22 March 2024 two economic missions take place in Vietnam, parallel to a state visit. One is focusing on agrifood and horticulture and the other is focusing on water and logistics. This event marks the 10-year anniversary of Vietnam-Netherlands cooperation on sustainable agriculture.
Ingrid Thijssen, chair of the PUM Supervisory Board and president of the Confederation of Netherlands Industry and Employers (VNO-NCW) and PUM CEO Ariette Brouwer will join the business delegation. The goal is to promote sustainable agriculture through innovative collaborations between Dutch organisations, companies and knowledge institutions and Vietnamese organisations in agrifood, horticulture, water, and logistics. Organised by the Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Development of Vietnam and the Ministry of Agriculture, Nature and Food Quality of the Netherlands, this event coincides with the Netherlands Royal couple’s state visit.
Improving the food system
The global food supply will increasingly become a challenge, especially because of climate change and the depletion of natural resources. Food security is therefore featured prominently in the UN Sustainable Development Goals, in the form of SDG 2 (‘No Hunger’.) PUM focuses on improving the food system, enhancing the role of small and medium-sized enterprises within the entire value chain.
Sharing insights
PUM CEO, Ariette Brouwer is invited to represent PUM during the Vietnam-Netherlands agricultural trade mission at a panel discussion “Working together towards sustainable food systems” on 19 March 2024, at the Intercontinental Westlake, Hanoi. Ariette will represent PUM in this panel and share insights on sustainable enterprise development, highlighting PUM’s role in sustainable agriculture and food security.
Project visit at Tan Loc Phat
PUM CEO, Ariette Brouwer and Ingrid Thijssen, Chair of PUM supervisory board and president of VNO-NCW will visit Tan Loc Phat Seeds, a seed manufacturing company in Ho Chi Min City. Sven Dekker, Country Coordinator will proudly accompany them.
PUM collaborated with Tan Loc Phat Seeds to develop new high quality hybrid varieties that are resistant/tolerant to pests and diseases, as well as other environmental stresses in the light of climate change.
As the global challenge of food security intensifies due to climate change and resource depletion, PUM aims to enhance the food system and empower small and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs) in the value chain.
