Lebanese Companies Explore New Trade Links in the Netherlands

From 19 to 23 May 2025, five Lebanese companies joined a trade visit to the Netherlands, organised by the Lebanese Dutch Business Association, the Lebanon Agrifood Innovation Cluster Qoot, and PUM. These visits form part of PUM’s unique approach to combining “aid and trade” , fostering mutually beneficial partnerships between small and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs) in emerging markets and Dutch companies.

Lebanon’s businesses have faced significant challenges in recent years, from economic crisis to regional conflicts, which have disrupted trade and international connections. In this context, the visit offered Lebanese entrepreneurs a vital opportunity to reconnect with Dutch partners, explore export possibilities and exchange innovative ideas.

PUM’s trade promotion visits are designed to create realistic and valuable matchmaking opportunities between foreign companies and Dutch businesses. This ultimately strengthens economic ties and opens new markets.

Exploring retail players and agricultural innovations

This Lebanese delegation included eight  companies working in retail, dairy, honey production, and innovative food processing. The programme started at the PUM office in The Hague, where participants received practical insights into doing business in Europe. They then visited major Dutch supermarkets like Albert Heijn and Jumbo, learning about retail trends, product handling, and market demands.

A highlight was the visit to the World Horti Center, where the group explored advanced greenhouse technology and discussed potential collaborations in floristry training, an area of particular interest for Lebanon. The delegation also visited a precision farming facility near Utrecht, gaining exposure to smart farming techniques that sparked curiosity and enthusiasm among the participants. This blend of trade and innovation underscores PUM’s commitment to connecting entrepreneurs and fostering sustainable international cooperation.

Strengthening long-term relationships

All participants found the experience worthwhile, gaining new ideas and technologies which could improve practices back home. Besides the connections made with Dutch companies, the participating entrepreneurs also expressed interest in planning follow-up projects with PUM experts for further collaboration, ranging from developing new products to modernising farming methods.

The visit reaffirmed the determination of Lebanese entrepreneurs to connect with European partners, and demonstrated the Netherlands’ ongoing commitment to supporting trade relationships, even in complex and challenging times. By bridging “aid and trade” PUM facilitates access to new markets and fosters innovation and sustainable growth for businesses on both sides.
