Mamali Moringa, led by agricultural engineer Sakalé Traoré in Bamako, Mali, produces high-quality moringa products and engages local female farmers through the provision of seeds, training and sustainable drying methods. Through two remote collaborations with PUM in 2024 and 2025, the company strengthened its commercial strategy, secured financing, formalised its supply chain and opened new markets.

PUM Impact Awards 2025

In 2025, Mamali Moringa was selected as one of the six winners of the PUM Impact Awards, which recognise SMEs that, together with PUM experts, achieve sustainable growth and contribute to inclusive economic development. Over the past two years, Mamali Moringa has significantly expanded its operations: revenue increased by 35%, and direct employment grew by more than 40% with new roles in production, logistics and marketing. Through six newly formed women’s cooperatives, more than 60 women were directly trained and nearly 300 women and young people indirectly benefited across rural areas. Mamali Moringa also collaborates with five small local businesses by producing their herbal infusions, strengthening the Malian business ecosystem. On the energy front, the company reached a major milestone with over 80% of its production now powered by solar energy, contributing to cost reduction and environmental sustainability.

Strategic  transformation

Mamali Moringa has undergone major structural and strategic transformation thanks to two online collaborations with PUM. With the online guidance of PUM expert José Cabrera y Charro in 2024, the company converted into a limited liability company (SARL), formalised its business model and strengthened its governance. José facilitated the development of a clear growth strategy, which resulted in raising funds and securing new shareholders. This work also enabled the creation of a structured decision-making framework for Product-Market-Combinations, ensuring future investments and commercial initiatives are both feasible and sustainable.

In 2025, marketing expert Anneke Verbraeken collaborated online with Mamali Moringa to refine its commercial positioning and digital outreach. Her contribution strengthened the company’s online communication, improved brand coherence for both African and European markets, and offered practical direction for accessing international online marketplaces. This has enabled Mamali Moringa to present itself more professionally and to explore new distribution channels.

Inclusive and contribution to the SDGs

Mamali Moringa now stands as a model of inclusive and sustainable agribusiness. The company actively contributes to the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) by promoting the economic empowerment of rural women, who represent 80% of its producer network, and by creating green jobs for young people in the moringa value chain. Its nutrient-rich, locally sourced products support efforts to combat malnutrition, while thousands of planted moringa trees contribute to environmental restoration. Through waste-reduction practices, solar-powered processing and steady income opportunities for rural households, the company enhances living conditions and strengthens resilience in local communities.

Looking  ahead

With strengthened structures and a clearer international strategy, Mamali Moringa is well positioned for further growth. The company is currently formalising its entire supply chain to ensure product quality and sustainability. Plans are also underway to finalise its agro-processing facilities, enabling greater production capacity and additional job creation.

Furthermore, the company is in the process of obtaining the certifications required for global platforms, and has requested another collaboration with PUM to progress efficiently in this area. Securing these certifications will not only enable the company to enter a broader international market, but also facilitate collaboration with large factories, wholesalers and partners seeking high-quality food supplements such as moringa.
