Partnership with DDE for entrepreneurial integration in Armenia

On 26 June, the PUM country team for Armenia together with staff from the Dutch Embassy in Yerevan, hosted the conference “Bridge to the future – continuous PUM support to Armenian SMEs”.  During the event, PUM presented its new programme, developed in close collaboration with the Social Development Department (DDE) of the Dutch Ministry of Foreign Affairs. Running from 2024 to 2026, the initiative focuses on strengthening SMEs that contribute to the integration and employability of displaced people from Nagorno-Karabakh.

Nagorno-Karabakh, a region in the South Caucasus, has long been the subject of conflict between Armenia and Azerbaijan. In 2023, renewed hostilities led to the displacement of more than 100,000 ethnic Armenians from the area. Many of those displaced have since sought safety and new opportunities in Armenia, where they face the challenge of rebuilding their lives and livelihoods.

Targeted support for displaced community

With dedicated funding from the Ministry, PUM will carry out 25 projects annually targeting this community. Experts will collaborate with SMEs owned by displaced people from Nagorno-Karabakh, as well as local businesses and civil society organisations that actively promote inclusive economic participation.

Integration through entreprenurship

Entrepreneurship can play a vital role in building stability. By supporting displaced entrepreneurs and the businesses that welcome them, PUM aims to foster sustainable livelihoods and strengthen social cohesion. Building on its long-standing presence in Armenia, PUM combines its unique expertise with local partnerships to strengthen the country’s entrepreneurial ecosystem. This will open up opportunities for displaced communities and create lasting positive impact for a more sustainable future.
