Fostering Social Dialogue: Indonesia-Netherlands Partnership

Indonesia

With the official signing of a letter of intent on Wednesday 29 November 2023, the relationship between employer and employee representations in Indonesia and the Netherlands was once again confirmed. The process of social dialogue development that was initiated several years ago by DECP, CNV-International and APINDO and KSBSI will be given a concrete follow-up.

An intensive training has been prepared in which decision makers from various sectors participate. Such as the palm oil industry and garment industry where social dialogue has already started. But also from the pharmaceutical industry and mining. PUM expert Jannie Mooren (Employers Business Support Organisations sector (EBSO) and an expert from CNV International provide both an introductory and upgrade training to participants who further develop the process of social dialogue in their sectors.

The signing of the letter of intent was the official starting signal for this training, which will culminate in concrete agreements on next steps per sector. This moment coincided with the visit of a delegation from the Dutch Ministry of Foreign Affairs, which follows developments in the field of social dialogue with great interest, as well as a representative of the Dutch embassy in Jakarta.

“We are happy to share our experience with our clients and partners in emerging countries like Indonesia. Social dialogue is the key to economic growth, where economic interests and social interests such as business growth and job creation come together. Employers and employee representatives should therefore meet, build trust and talk to each other. This requires some key skills such as negotiation and mediation. Developing awareness and skills in these areas is one of the services that PUM and CNV experts can offer you and your members. It is at the sectoral level that effective and concrete results can be achieved.”

The kick-off was done by the Director of Social Security of the Ministry of Manpower of the Republic of Indonesia, Ms Retno Pratiwi. She strongly emphasised the importance of this project and praised the collaborating parties.
